Software Developer (Systems Software)

This is a requirement for a Dev Ops focused Software Developer with Linux and Java background with exposure to development and deployment environments in Sponsor's Cloud. Our developers build applications for users to discover and analyze data in our large and ever-growing repositories (8B+ records). Typically, a user performs a query and our applications return an answer. We have 2 such applications being redeveloped, 3 applications that support our internal analysts, and many strategic initiatives. The data we query is hosted in virtualized cloud environments built and maintained by a network team. Data is stored in one of two ways: in indexed flat files or in a database. Development environments are also in the cloud. Development is done on Linux, which means compiling, linking, configuring, etc. is all done on that operating system. Developers are therefore expected to know their way around a Linux box before coming to join us. Configuration management and deployment orchestration is done using git, GitHub, Jenkins and Puppet. The IDE of choice is Eclipse and IntelliJ. We're engaged in several strategic initiatives (i.e. new development) that will create a new application for user consumption. This is an excellent opportunity to join as we are in the planning phase of a multi-year, multi-phased effort. There is much work with a far reaching horizon.
